2005 Annual Meeting

March 8-9, 2005, Fall Creek Falls State Park

The Tennessee Chapter AFS annual meeting was held for the second year in a row at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Eighteen papers were presented over the two-day period by students and professionals alike on a wide variety of topics.

Highlights of the business meeting Tuesday afternoon included summaries of plans to host the 2007 Southern Division meeting in Memphis, the 2009 AFS parent society meeting in Nashville and the 2007 Reservoir Symposium in Atlanta. Brac Saylors spoke on behalf of the students from the University of Tennessee proposing the formation of a UT subsection. Todd St. John was nominated and voted in as the new president-elect and Amy Wales will continue her role as secretary/treasurer. The meeting concluded with President Ed Scott passing the newly hand-turned (by Ed Scott) gavel to President-Elect Jim Layzer. Welcome aboard Jim.

The banquet took place on the night of March 8, and began with an outstanding meal prepared by the staff at Fall Creek Falls. Awards were presented for the Best Student paper (Samrat Saha, TTU), Friend of Fisheries (The Claussen Family), Fisheries Scientist of the Year (Amy Wales, TVA), and Lifetime Achievement (Steve Ahlstedd, retired USGS). The highlight of the banquet was an auction, the proceeds of which will go to benifit childrens fishing events around Tennessee
